Home-Centre arm rest and Aluminium Console
Centre arm rest and Aluminium Console
Popped into Honda this morning and picked up the console, it was a two piece item. I took out the old rear piece, two screws and a clip and fitted the new one in place. You need to remove the drinks tray to screw the top half of the armrest to the bottom piece .. other than that job done. I can now change gear whilst driving with my arm resting in total comfort:) Also enquired about the ally centre console piece which i always thought was a seperate trim piece, not so .. it's a stick on item, list price 65 plus VAT, i picked it up new with a reciept for25 + VAT. All in all a good morning and only 10 minutes to fit it all. could do with some pics pls. ok new pics going up in my gallery, i didn;t get any of fitment because there seemed little point .... i'm reasonably good with my hands but even for me this was simplicity itself. Just when I thought I was looking at yet another bunch of boring pics of a boring armrest...........( I dont have one and I dont want one, they always end up full of doodoo at the bottom, then you leave the lid open and smash your elbow on somthing and end up shouting Drat! very loud)...... http://www.hondasuv.com/main2/album_pic.php?pic_id=2023 Hey What you done to your dials? I like the idea of the markings at the limits. My company car has red marks at 30 and 70, and I kind of got used to It (untill I found the speedo was 10mph out at 70). I've been thinking of adding them to my own car recently, Are they on the plastic lens, or have you put them on the dials? I think that could be a good project for the weekend. If they are on the dials are they easy to get to? Oh dear! what's the marking on the rev counter? I hope you dont let it drop below that?    Not much point in a high rev motor that dont rev high BTW Good move on the centre console 100% improvement, no, 1000% improvement IMHO ON the plastic lens ... i got nabbed for doing 105.4 average on the M1 a few months back and now that i have a nice 9 point license i intend to keep it, those are just there for easy speed checks. The rev counter one is meant to be a fuel economy idea, in practice it never works because i just drive over 4k all the time:) As for the centre console, the old one was sooo tatty from where some scumbag had tried to nick the previous owners radio i was left with two choices, sand it and paint it ... or get rid. I didn't know the honda one was simply a stick on trim ... and for only 29 quid or whatever inc vat it was almost a bargain. As for the fitting time ..... how honda could ever charge someone to fit those for them is beyond me! Drat.. Beat Me ...102 on the A41... 4 months ago still no summons??? (in agony opening the mail every day) Slowed down seriously now, but you can see why I'm thinking of marking the speedo. There is a thread somewhere here that shows how to take the instrument panel apart, I just need to find it again... Time to call out... MRTN!!!... Oh great source of knowledge (especially on previous threads) where be it..? Yup .. i'm a 2 miles under every speed limit man ... i slow for anything and everything. I'm sure it irritates people when i go from 1st gear to 30mph and drop it into 5th .. i've had so many idiots nearly go up my arse off traffic lights doing that. I would have thought you just take off the steering wheel binnacle and unscrew the front facia of the dash and then it will all just slide out? what do you mean, dick? moved eutimal's pics to Check out my HR-V gallery. that's more suitable place for them. he means i got arrested by the police for going faster than he was:) Mine was an average of 105.4 t imed over 2 miles, i know how fast i was going i'm just glad the policeman put his speed down and not asked me how fast i thought i was going. Found It !!!! Instructions on how to strip the instrument panel out, Looks simple enough so I think I'll give it a go http://www.hondasuv.com/main2/viewtopic.php?t=1127&start=15 Oh and as for the speed. I've since got a GPS unit which gives me an accurate reading. In order to be doing a real 105mph your speedo would be reading somewhere about 120!!!!, Thats 190 Km/h (and the plod know this) As for my little brush with the law, I contested it (politely) at the time. I know when I was pulled thet my speedo was reading in the high 90's, and having since used the GPS to verify the reading, that actually put me at 86 - 89 mph. to read 102 on the GPS the car needed to be reading between 116, and 118, which I am sure it was not. After I bought the GPS I spent a little time on an old air field checking the speedo, I found that up to 70mph it was quite close to the real speed, beyond that it started to over read, by the time it was up to 100 mph it was a good 10% over. On a trip to Portugal, through Spain, last year there were some amazing new roads, I went for 40 miles without seeing another car, the roads were wide and flat, and I got the car clean off the clock. The needle was virtually straight down, and when I eventually did see a car, it passed me! (Bloody BMW drivers) But here in the UK we have too many people in too little space, and to be quite honest there is little excuse for passing 90 on your speedo. At the time I got stopped I already knew I should have been going slower. So I guess I deserved it, as did you. You will find that unlike gatso's traffic cops are actually quite fair, and will mostly only stop you if they have good reason. If you figure that the average speedo reads over by 10%, and that the ACPO guidelines are a further 10% + 2mph, then there is little chance of getting a tug if you keep the car somewhere around the correct reading, even if your reading as high as 80 on the M-way you'll still not get a pull. I've passed many battenburgs at that speed whilst everybody else is crawling past at 65. The most dangerous gatsos are the 30mph ones, as they are now set real close to the limit, and a 10% increase at 30 mph, can be caused by somthing as minor as a sudden change in wind direction. Traveling at 30mph in 5th gear is very risky, as the engine has little hold over the vehicles speed, and you can easily drift over the limit. The best gear for town driving is 3rd, as the car becomes less affected by external forces, such as hills, or wind, and engine breaking is more effective, therfore keeping you at a more constant speed The copper that got me was using a hand held laser gun, and clocked me at a distance of nearly 600m, after that I'd spotted him and thrown the anchor out, so he only got 1 reading. but still it was too late! The moral of the story.......Dont do stupid speeds. I cover over 60,000 miles per year, and I need my licence. There are however many more dangerous driving habbits than simply excess speed, but the plod can't measure them, so people get away with it. It is quite possible to be traveling at an inapropriate speed, whilst not exceeding the limit. Anyway I'll get off my soap box, and go rip my dials out............... Yup .. i was going well over the limit, i'd been seeing how fast i could go whilst the roads were dead, i got it off both clocks for a sustained distance. However i also think the policeman was watching my little test and caught me right as i was slowing back down to motorway speeds. My own fault, 6 points, no ban and only a 200 quid fine and my lesson is learnt and i will not be doing anything like that on a public road again. Getting the armrest helps because it makes you adopt a more relaxed driving position which in turn makes your drive more relaxed because you're comfortable. If i could just find some decent front seats:P what if i ran a red light but there wasn't any police around. will there be consequences? uk laws? Hi Patrick, Are you telling me that the new look dashboard is actually a stick on type, it looks bloody fab! How did you manage to do it so well, especially around the edge of the dials? Tell all matey! Honestly it was as easy as this; I removed by gently prising it out the existing centre piece, you then unplug the aircon, hazard and heated rear window switch and take the whole thing out. Clean it down with the cleaning cloth and solvent provided in the pack, make sure it's all clean and dry. You then put the stick on unit over it and press it firmly down all around until it sits flush. Then refit all the cables and connectors and put it back in the dashboard. Job done, ten minutes max:) I forgot to add, the new cover comes with all the adhesive pads in place, just peel off the backing and that's it. I wonder if the ones that you buy from the net are like that, or just flat pieces, because I would hate to leave the blue showing at the bend of the heating controls (if you know what I mean) the ones from the net are just flat pieces, i had gone through the same deliberation myself which was why i jumped at the chance to have a proper honda part, that centre console piece is sthe only bit it matters on as well, anything else you can get away with flat pieces. Very true, ok I am sold on the idea, Honda Stealership here I come, and a silver effect handbrake cover methinks. By the way Patrick, was yours silver or titanium? Now that's a good question, if you can wait an hour or so i'll post you the actual honda part number, i still have the box at home:) No problem Patrick, by the way has your dealership got anymore at those prices :D (cheesy grin) heh .. no i don't think he has, i reckon i cleaned him out of ex-stock bargain honda stuff, however i do think it's worth ringing around to see what else you can get. There are a couple of options open to you here, not least getting a vaccuum formed piece made yourself, there are also a number of breakers yards who i'm in touch with regarding the HRV and will let you know if i find one with a silver centre console. Ok Patrick, I just noticed the topic that you put up for my attention and I tried brundle but they are not their anymore. the part number you need to ask for is 08z03-s2h-500g which is the aluminium panel:) Cheers, Patrick Cheers Patrick, I managed to order one from a dealership in lancashire. Once again thank you! I hope you didn't pay full list though .... i've also found a link for some american "dynamat" which is looking at 42 quid for 65 sqaure foot of it. I'm going to enquire about postage and then enquire about importing a lot more of it after i've tested it myself Go for it Patrick. Let me know how you get on well after a week of waiting they have rung me to say the part is no longer available, so its a refund of 75.01. The good news is that a friend of mine works in the motor repair industry and he says he can rub the console down to a smooth finish and spray it any colour I wish, and hes not going to charge me a penny! As he works in the industry he has access to a company that sells all the motor accessories at trade prices (they dont allow the public in, only trade) so he has also invited me down there to browse and buy! Sometimes God is smiling on me! my mate at the garage will be compiling a list of all honda parts for the HR-V that he can lay his hands on and faxing it to me when he's got it. I will then post that list on here for you guys to pick at, it will be complete with part numbers, and prices i hope. Patrick Hi Patrick, Cool I am dribbling (from the mouth) with excitement! Heh ... crazyman:) at least you know if there is a centre console and a ally trim piece there it won't be bought by me ;) Very true Patrick, but then I wont buy one neither.... arf! Hi Patrick, Any luck with that list? Well the centre console has been rubbed down and resprayed, and it looks great! What would you think if I did the same to the interior door handle surrounds and the switch surrounds on both doors (a little much perhaps?) HELLO BOYS. I AM WONDERING IF ANY OF YOU CAN HELP. I AM LOOKING FOR INSTUMENT PANNEL FACIA REPLACEMENTS FOR A 99 HR-V, INC DOOR TRIMS AND FOGS. THE LINK PROVIDED ON THIS SITE FOR WOODDASH.COM DOESNT WORK ANYMORE AS THE COMPANY HAS STOPPED MANUFACTURING THE PRODUCTS. ARE THERE ANY OTHERS THAT YOU FELLAS ARE AWARE OF? OR IS IT GONNA BE A CASE OF GETTING THE BAD BOY SPRAYED UP PROFESSIONALLY! [glow=yellow:1b490d067c]I'M PUZZLED!!!! WHICH PARTS EXACTLY ARE YOU LOOKING FOR ?.... AND IN WHAT COLOR? GREY...ALUMINIUM..OR WOOD??[/glow:1b490d067c] If you want the centre console dash cover it will cost 75 from any Honda dealership. I would suggest getting it rubbed down and sprayed as it will probably be cheaper. I had the console, door handle trims, top glovebox handle, and the window control surrounds rubbed and sprayed by a friend who owns his own auto refurbishment company, I gave him 70 for the lot! Mike THE DEALERSHIPS ARE NOT DOING THEM ANYMORE. IT IS THE CONSOLE SURROUND, WINDOW CONTROLLS SURROUND, FOG LIGHT SWICH SURROUND, AND INTERIOR DORR HANDLE SURROUND. MINE WAS A CRAPPY VANIER WOOD FINNISH AND I AM LOOKING FOR AN ALLIMINIUM FINISH. TO BE HONNEST I WOULD BE HAPPY FOR ANY COLOUR SO I COULD CUSTOMISE IT MYSELF LIKE HATTUS. I would get a quote for it to be rubbed down and sprayed (make sure you use 2pak spray on the door handles and window control surround as they are high use areas). Mike Hi can anyone tell me where I can buy an Arm Rest for a 5 door 2001 model HRV apart from Honda Dealers?
