Home-New engine needed!!!

New engine needed!!!

Well i've had it confirmed that my piston rings are indeed worn. Rather than spend 700 notes fixing them just to have to rip out and replace the big end next, i've got an imported engine coming from japan with less than 30k on the clock for 800 fitted.

I've got about 10 weeks or so left till it arrives so it's easy driving for me and no vtec action as that uses oil nearly as fast as petrol :)

The bloke who's fitting it for me reckons i've just been unlucky with the my engine as he reckons even driving like I do, there's no way i can kill a head and block in 50k miles - if i can, he thinks i've got a job doing break testing for one of the motor manufacturers lol

Now question is, what else will bolt onto that 4x4 gearbox of ours .... 2.2 prelude engine or how about a proper DOHC Vtec lump out of a civic vti? I've got till monday before he orders it ;)

Cheers,

Patrick
Sorry to hear this Pat. AFAIK the D series gearbox won't mount up to anything else. I know when the civic boys do engine swaps to put in a B series engine etc they have to change the box too.
It's a bit of a pain, but its not worth shelling out 700 quid on new rings and a new headgasket etc when i can get a complete low mileage engine fitted and bought for 800 quid :)

I thought it had been a bit flat of late, even though it's better than it was .... maybe fuel economy will improve too, cos it's been a bag of shit of late. I could do better with an M3!!!

I'm going to ask about a bit of head work when i get it - see if i can some mild fettling done, maybe a stainless manifold would be a cool thing to do - will have to see :)
D series engines do respong well from breathing mods.
I want your 'old' engine!!

What do you want for it?

:? :)
Sorry to hear this Pat. AFAIK the D series gearbox won't mount up to anything else.
Correct. Nothing but another D-series engine. If you wanted to swap in a B-series though, the RT-4WD transmission out of a 1st-gen CR-V should work with the HR-V's 4WD system, right?
pat, man, im sorry to hear that
i dont think you can wear the piston rings of a honda engine with crazy driving
most likely it was a rare factory defect
but hey - youd be getting a fresh engine now :)
The garage i've been going to also say pretty much the same thing. I'm going to order another D16W5 for now and get that fitted.

CRX - what do you want the gine for :)

I'll put the head on mine. Coupled with a VAFC - I have a V-Tec!

Well the head is basically brand new .. it's got new valve stem seals, new valve seats etc. How much would that cost to ship to you!!!
I have no idea, but I'd be most greatful if you could find out!

Clearly if we can deal, it would be cash up front etc etc.

You have a paypal account i'm guessing? I'll speak to some of the courier companies and see how much they charge for large items, i've no idea how much that thing weighs but i'm guessing it will be around the 20kg to 30kg mark. As for value .. i really have no fcuking clue, whatever i can get from se lling serviceable parts will go some way to filling the hole left from the purchase of a new engine :)

If i had the time, money and a spare car .. i'd throw a CRV 2.0l at the garage and the gearbox and just say "make it so". :-)
You have a paypal account i'm guessing?
I don't but I'm quite happy to talk directly with you and get your banking details so I can do a wire transfer up front. I'm in no rush, so get an idea from the postal people for a package of that size /weight. (Courier to SA is really expensive and only an option for light-weight or really urgent stuff.) Assuming we can come to a deal then prepare the package, and go get a 'quote' for insured mail from the Royal Postal service, let me know, and the wire will be in your account in a few days, and then you can pop it in the post?
I 'wired' some funds to my daughter in Leeds on Monday and she had it the same afternoon.

The R:GBP ratio is a bit steep (11,74:1) so I don't ... Shees! I just worked out that you're paying 800 sterling means R9000! I can get these engines (I'll battle to get a W5, but a Z6 or a Y8 will work fine) for half that.

I'm guessing it will be most worth your while to sell it there, but if you can not and you'll let it go for a bargain, then LMK.

Ideally, I'd want the intake manifold and throttle body with all the bits on them too (I'm guessing your import motor will have all these).

If i had the time, money and a spare car .. i'd throw a CRV 2.0l at the garage and the gearbox and just say "make it so". :-)

Mmm, can't say I have not thought about that a lot...

Heh!

8) :)
Heh well that price was a price including removing my current engine and fitting the new one in ;) Depending on how xmas goes, i may well be in a position to let it go for a song. I'll have to look out for my own finances first and if i can get 200 quid for it here i'll have to. However if it's still kicking around the place by the time i get the new engine in and i'm sorted for money, i'll give you a shout - first refusal if it doesn't sell elsewhere and no, i won't rob you blind for it :) Royal mail will do that for me lol
OK.
As I said, I'm in no hurry.
You're a scholar and a gentleman.
(And there's few of us left!)

lol well seeing as you can't have it until i'm finished with it and i won't be finished with it until i've got a new one and i'm not hurrying to get a new one cos it will cost me 800 quid ... i'd say it's a damn good job you're not in a hurry ;) In all seriousness though, unless i can source an engine here in good nick with low miles it will be first week jan 06 before mine arrives from Japan.
