sorry to bring this topic back up guys,gotta abit of a problem with mine,had a read of the manuel checked all d obvious signs like the coolant etc dats all fine,there was a tiny bit leeking out of the top of the container that holds it but its now secure,but my needle keeps going up 2 hot wen the engine is on but im not moving e.g in traffic,parked up etc,but as soon as i start driving it cools down to mid heat/below mid which is classed as the normal heat.any clues wot this cud be? its done 50k now so its due a service so it shall be goin 2 my local honda soon but i just thought it maybe sumfink i cud sort out,as it has only just happend from a trip from guildford to southampton and back. Dave :) Prior to taking it to a mechanic, I'd check if the fan is working? Start the car, open the bonnet and as the engine heats up see if the radiator fan switches on. If not, it could be a loose contact, or the small electric motor might need replacing. If the radiator fan isn't working, please switch the engine off prior to wiggling the wires. i have checked to see if it comes on,and it doesnt come on,there seems to be a little bit of coolant on the bottom of the engine bay sorry that was me,i thought i was signed in Well, If fan dont come on, 1 Check to see if it will turn freely by hand (engine off) 2 Check fuse (see manual) 3 Check connection to fan. 4 Check connection to temp sensor (on side of thermostat) 5 Disconnect wires from fan motor and stick 12 volts up it to see if motor is ok (mind fingers) 6 Hit it! 7 Give up and join the AA! (http://www.theaa.com) (which you should have done in the first place) Coolant you see is probably from the overflow, this happens when the coolant gets near boiling point In the critical situation You can turn the heater on to the maximum and the temperature will decrease for sure very soon. Of course it will not solve the problem of overheating but at least you will not kill your engine when the temperature suddenly goes above the level. I always did that with my Daewoo Nexia, which didnt like summer at all 8) |
