My brother is looking at a CJ with a Dana 60 in the rear. I think these are pickup truck axles. What should we look out for? As these are wide tracks will they pair up OK with a Dana 44? Are Dana 60's a 5x5.5 pattern?

Jeff, all Dana 60,s to the best of MY knowledge are 8 lug.... Ive Never seen one that wasnt but maybe someone will chime in and say some canadian dump truck had a 5 lug so I could be wrong but dont think i am....
Well, most all are, but there is a very rare International 5 on 5.5 dana 60, however I doubt that that is what's in it, beings as they are very, very rare, kinda like a scout 300. But hey, I have seen an 8-lug 8.8... As for you your question, look out for the craftsmanship of how the axles were put in, especially look at the steering to see if it looks safe. My guess would be that they were probably not narrowed and the front springs were outboarded. Again, look at the welds, and make sure you would trust your life driving on them.
Thanks. I'll check out the outboarding. I'm not sure what axle is in the front yet but what should I look for to check for steering safety?

Look for anything that's bent or welded together, or close to the spring. Bends and welds are real bad. If your still unsure, snap a picture and post it up here.

Some of your Mopar Muscle cars used semi-floating 60s with 5 bolt patterns (don't remember which). They are about the right width for a CJ IIRC...
