I have a chance to purchase a running Willys Jeep for $900.00. It needs brakes, seats, windshield, wheels, tires, gas tank, paint and the transmission won't stay in second. And that's without lifting the hood.

It's an old flat fendered jeep from the fifties. Does this sound like a smart purchase. I'm afraid it'll be a huge money pit. How available are the parts for these old jeeps?
It's a huge money pit. Parts are available, but I can guarantee it will be a huge money pit. What you've got there sounds like a parts Jeep. Trying to make a parts Jeep whole piece by piece gets reeeeeeeeaaal expensive quick.

get it, do what I did get a job overseas making big bucks then dump it into the jeep...then go work another year to cover the costs you spent and youll be good :)
Go for it! All the parts are out there. There are a multitude of suppliers. They're small, easy to work on and depending on how you restore it, will always bring a good return. Plus the fun of having something different! See if you can get it for $500 cash?

I agree sounds like a money pit to me too. Doesnt mean you still shouldnt buy it. What model is it?

If its the T90 trans, my 3A had the same problem, popping out of second, i did a tranny rebuild and no more problems. i believe it was a bad synchro. That tranny is really easy to rebuild too.

Brakes arent too bad, tires are easy, gas tank is easy especially if its the under the drivers seat kind, and evern easier since you say you need new seats also.

Its its got a straight, non rusty body though id buy it.
