Home-Seats and harnesses
Seats and harnesses
I am going to install some new seats and harnesses into my Jeep. I need some assistance. I would like to see your guy's setups and suggestions about how to do this. Here's what I'm working with: http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n100/NewDriver95/CJ7/dbb54a79.jpg This Jeep is a little unique. Fiberglass tub. Those are Civic seats. They are mounted to the cage like so: http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n100/NewDriver95/CJ7/93a8e8c0.jpg http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n100/NewDriver95/CJ7/72c60219.jpg The cage is not tied into the frame yet, but this will be done at the same time as the seat install. Seats I want: http://www.quadratec.com/products/24226_1XX_A_PG.htm Harnesses I want: http://www.corbeau.com/products/3_inch_belts/3_inch.shtml# I think I should be able to get the seats in. Don't want sliders. Should be a bolt in affair with some tabs welded onto the cage. Harnesses are throwing me off a little. Sub marine belt should be able to be mounted to that front bar under the seats you think? Where to mount the lap belt points? Going to have to bend a bar for behind the seats (not going to be enough clearance to mount a straight piece or tubing to the b-pillar or to do straight angular bars). Do the shoulder straps mount to this bar or do they go through loops mounted on the bar and then backwards towards the floor? I've seen it done both ways. :help: I run the 2 inch seat / shoulder belts http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v298/gperx4/DSCN2071.jpg I just put them in my Ranger also http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v298/gperx4/Ranger%206x6/DSCN2407.jpg For the lap belts, I basically have someone sit in the seat and draw a line thru their hips, down thru the "corner" of the seat and to the cage. It ends up being about a 45 degree angle rearward from the corner of the upper and lower seat cushions.. if that makes any sense. For the shoulder harnesses, they should come with mounting instructions. Most that I've seen recommend no lower than 4" below shoulder height. Mounting them lower is a good way to get a spinal compression injury. The lap belts hold you down in the seat.. the shoulder harnesses keep you from going forward. One thing that's kind of a PITA about harnesses is that they really restrict your movement. If you can't sit with your back against the seat and adjust a knob, you're not gonna reach it when strapped in. Same goes for shifters. I used to have to unbuckle to shift the transfer case in my old CJ.. before I lengthened the shifter. You also won't be able to lean out of the vehicle like you can with stock belts. Anyone else? |
