I just replaced my valve gasket, using cork and permatex ultra black, it was pretty easy only two rocker nuts as well. It's cold here in Colorado(27) so I'll give it 48 hours to cure before seeing if it worked.
One more quick question, Coming out of the steering box towards the steering wheel is a boot which I believe is connected to whats called the intermediate shaft. This is where 99% of my steering shaft play is, is this the same location you had issues with?

I had issues up on the top U-joint first then realized the bottom was sloppy, then the bottom blew out and my steering wheel had about 180 of play.
