I really like the stance of the 1983+ CJ-7 with the wider axle/wheel base. Are wheel-spacers a viable alternative, or is it best to swap in the wider axles on previous years? I'm looking at a 1980 that I really like except for the narrow axles.
Buy good quality, you get good quality as far as wheel spacers go. Run them until you're ready for some bigger axles. You can also go to a wheel with less off set.
Or ask around. There are lots of wide track CJ axles, sitting behind barns and garages, that can be had for the hauling. A swap sould take about a day (or less with two people).
