Harmonic Dampener Picture Request

I am putting my engine back together and I got to the part where I put the timing cover on and then put hte dampener on and basically I don't know what the issue is.

I put the balancer on and used a bolt to pull it in. I pulled it in to 80 ft/lbs. as the TSM indicated, but from waht I can see of my original pictures and some other Jeeps I have had, this is not even close. It is like 5/8" away from the timing cover.

Is the crank snout supposed to be flush with the edge of the balancer? I can't remember when I took it apart.

Thanks,
cb
Brilliant of me to spell damper wrong.

I actually did a bunch of reading and it turns out I am going to have to replace this as the rubber that I had on mine was starting to go south... bummer, but probably better.

What I need to know is when instaling it, how far on the snout does it go?

Thanks,
cb

Yep it should be flush. They make a tool to install the balancer, There is no other way to get it on.
Yeah, the tool route is the way to go from what I have been reading, so when the damper comes in, I will go rent one and stick it on.

I just realized that if I had the water pump on with the pulley as well as the alternator, you could almost line it up that way and I would have known right away that it needed to be on further... ahh live and learn and get madder and madder when it doesn't work out....

So, lesson learned, don't work mad, drink a beer instead...
