Home-Whos Running A Waggy Front Axle?
Whos Running A Waggy Front Axle?
Decided against the Scout Axles' I had access to since I was able to find a Waggy 44 front end. However I'd like to hear from those of you have installed them on the following questions: How do you like it the Waggy Front End? What mods did you do to the axle when installing (Hi-Steer, etc)? What did you do for a rear axle (I'm running narrow-trac (I believe) with spacers, AMC 20 w/1pc Superior Axles......it's a 1979 CJ5)? I'm debating on keeping my AMC 20 or swapping for Scout Rear D44? Any other info you can add relating to lessons learned or what you'd change if you could do it again would be greatly appreciated. http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g210/RockCrawlingHawaii/DSC01409.jpg I'm in the middle of this swap right now. I'm gonna use a waggy rear as well from a 87 model. ....deleted Are you planning on narrowing it or outboarding the springs. I am in the processes now of trying to find one for my CJ. Are you planning on narrowing it or outboarding the springs. No, I'm leaving the front full width which is about 3 inches wider then what I'm running stock. I'd swap on the small D44 spindles and Ford outers to get the 5x5.5" instead of the D30 stuff. The D30 stuff is smaller/weaker. The steering knuckles will fit but I'm almost positive the D30 stubs are smaller. The 30 uses external hubs too. I'd rather run the 44 internal hubs. It's been a long time since I've messed with D30s.. I guess I'm spoiled by D60s.. :D I'd swap on the small D44 spindles and Ford outers to get the 5x5.5" :D BESRK, Were would I start to look for these parts? Junkyards in Hawaii are sparse so I doubt I'll find them. Any links/sites you could recommend? I hear you about the junkyards.. I grew up in Kailua, Kona. Mom still lives in Makaha. I see those spindles from time to time on eBay. You'd be looking for D44 "small bearing" spindles from either a GM or Waggie axle about 75 and earlier. Those will allow you to run Ford hubs and rotors and use GM/Waggie calipers. I just skimmed over eBay and didn't see any. I saw a pair of Ford spindles but I think you have to change stub shafts as the Ford's are shorter.. not positive on that though. If you find a pair on eBay that won't ship to Hawaii for some reason, shoot me a PM and have 'em shipped to my house.. I'll have the wife drop them off at USPS to get 'em to you. |
