Please dont flame me......but

I got an in-expensive orbital that has the 10" terry cloth elastic band clothes that goes over the pad.

QUESTION

I used it on my indigo ink Taco, with some cleaner wax, and it came out good.

Used lightly....

1st - am I hurting my paint with the Terry cloth
2nd - do they make a micro fiber 10" cloth to go over it, instead of the terry cloth?
3rd - I got some Kaluse Polish & Wax, can I use the orbital with that?




Get rid of the terry cloth. Yes they make MF bonnets.

Those kind of buffers don't polish very good, but I guess they're better than doing it by hand. They're fine for spreading wax, but they're too slow to do significant polishing, and you're stuck using bonnets. Foam buffing pads is a big part of what makes a buffer work good. When you have to use a cloth bonnet you are really reducing the capability of the polish to repair swirls.
Years ago I had a buffer like yours, and when I stepped up to a PC7424 I was amazed. I should have bought one sooner.

It will benefit you and your car if you switch to MF Towels opposed to Terry Cloth. Try searching the internet to find 10" MF Bonnets for your buffer!!

The latter claims that their buffer pad size, speed, and power make it better than the PC.

We tried the UDM, and it's a powerful machine. It has a switch that can turn on accidentally, and does often. The overall quality of the Chinese made unit, as tested by our team and customers, is not as good as the Porter Cable.

We could buy them cheaper, and make more money on the UDM, however, we only offer the best product available in every category we participate. Since that is our standard, we only carry the Porter Cable 7424. While more expensive, it's the best machine available in the category.

Now, if you are more experienced with a buffer, the Flex polisher is something that you might want to check out. It's more expensive, and if used improperly, can burn a clear coat or paint job. We might offer that unit soon for the professionals.

Usually quality costs money and these units are up to $300 and say they can polish and 8 inch area, which is good for big patches of metal.

OR

You can turn the two 4 inch head sideways and polish narrow areas like the pillars.

Anyone's take on these or is the PC still best?

You talking about the Cyclo Polisher? Great unit! the 8" isn't exactly that, as there is a space between the 4" pads that you need to go over. The PC will cover more square area with the same time and effort.

I have a cyclo. Its heavy and harder to handle. It works good on scratches and real neglected paint. It works great on carpet stains when you put brush heads on it. But for basic polishing on most cars I prefer the PC.

Ooo. I'm dying to try a Flex XC 3401. It is more aggressive than the PC, but safer than a rotary. The Flex is a mix between a rotary and an orbital.
