Source: DCX Media Services 2008 Dodge Durango - The first DaimlerChrysler Two-Mode Hybrid" "DaimlerChrysler/General Motors two-mode full hybrid system features patented technology that leapfrogs today's hybrid systems." "Under hard acceleration the two-mode system routes power from both the engine and electric motors to the wheels for high performance." YO
When Honda's Accord Hybrid was introduced with slightly better performance, no one raised the BS flag. What about this concept do you disagree with,... I find it totally feasible!! 200)?200:this.scrollHeight); overflow: hidden;">
Current: 2000 Lincoln LS V8-Sport
What annoyed my about this PR piece was that they made it sound as if combining the power of the electric and combustion engine is some new revolution. I am not sure about the Honda hybrids but the Toyota hybrids already do this. They are not "leapfrogging" anyone. They are mearly catching up. Now if Mercedes brings their diesel hybrid to market with the "Bluetech" cleaning technology that makes the diesel much cleaner then the gasser then they will indeed be leapfrogging. 200)?200:this.scrollHeight); overflow: hidden;">

How do you know they aren't leapfrogging? Maybe they are talking about the two electric motor system or the packaging. I would wait until details are available to see if they are or aren't. But the main point is that GM and DCX are coming out with hybrids for their bread and butter trucks and SUV's, which should help allay some fuel economy jitters in buyers, and also you just know they are going to lobby the government to subsidize their hybrid trucks like they do with cars. 200)?200:this.scrollHeight); overflow: hidden;">

As a Toyota fan, I am glad there are more players in this market, it will totally drop the price because competiton is good for all of us. --------- Looks good on paper, but I do not see how an electric engine is going to move a 5500 lb vehicle on a regular basis. Dodge could not install their reduced cylinder concept (running on 4 cylinders instead of 8) in the Durango because of the vehicles size and weight. I am also sure the 25% increase in fuel economy is not based on all three engine types offered in this vehicle, probably just on the 3.7 liter model which is the least popular. ---------
1. Why? 2. That doesn't make sense. Honda installed its version on a V6 powering a 4700 lb minivan, with just three cylinders activated during cruising. ---------
Nice try Dummy-O. The 2006 'Rango gets MDS. Next. |
