ok ya know the little light on the dash it lights up yellow and has a exclamation point (!) in it , alot of times when i start my car that light is on so i turn it back off arm the alarm then disarm in and restart the car and usually it goes away after the first shot sometimes it takes a couple of times but usually the first time works,so i been dealing with this problem , but today i was sitting at a stop light and all of a sudden it felt like the car popped out of gear and the light came on so i turned it off set the alarm then unset it and started the car and it was fine , so just awhile ago im pulling away from the taco bell drive threw and as im pulling away the car felt like it popped out of gear then into second and the light came on so i turned it poff restarted it and it was fine ,

The same thing was happening to my 1993 325i Auto but no alarm. The TCM (Transmission Control Module) light would turn on usually after a hard stop and could only be cleared by turning the car on/off. My independent mechanic pulled a "Code 40" from my car. According to him it was the TCM eprom or the chip which controls the TCM and there was a recall campaign from BMW for this problem a couple of years back. Anyway after he replaced the TCM eprom/chip, the car has been running great and no more TCM lights and it only cost me about $120.00 installed.

thanks for the info , were did you get the new eprom\chip ?
My mechanic ordered it from the dealer. He had to check the production date and VIN first to make sure it was the batch of cars covered by the recall.
Anyone know what the part number is for this EPROM? My 93 325i is having this same symtom. My local dealer has the bulletin but the part number wasn't on the bulletin. They are researching that now.
