Ok, so my shift knob has been falling apart. The previous owner had replaced the stock one with something sketchy. Not long after I started driving the car, my wear and tear on the shift knob broke a small metal ring just above where the boot ended. I taped it up and drove on. Just now, my the leather part of the knob gave way, so I'm left with something that looks like modern art.

Now, I know what you're thinking... why didn't this kid do a search to find out how to remove the knob? Why is he wasting my time?

Here's the catch -- I DID SEARCH. I've read all about how I should put the stick in second and pull up and back towards me as hard as I can (my car is a 93 325is, so this procedure should be correct...). I've tried this, but to no avail. I've tried unscrewing the knob as well. No dice.

i think that procedure is only for the factory bmw shift knob. if i am correct, on the bottom of you knob, there will be a metal ring. unscrew the ring down, and that should expose 3 allen type small screws. hope this works.

That knob does look like it uses three alan wrench type screws. Try checking it out if not give it a strong pull!

That's a MOMO shifter with three small allen key grub screws that attach it to the shifer lever under the screw down collar. The stock one pulls off with a tug.

My suggestion would be to beat your knob off. ;)
