My girlfriends 01 530 has an AC problem. It has just started to not work today. At first the air comming out was cool, but it wouldnt blow any harder than low. If we turn the fan all the up, it doesnt push air out any faster. I know that there are people in here that may have an idea as to what is wrong. Can someone help?

I have the same problem. My ac air is cool but the air doesn blow harder than medium. Also, my ac creates a weird fan growling noise when it's on. Turn it off and the sound fades away. Does anyone have a clue what the problem could be? For the OP, you could be seeing the effects of plugged up microfilters, the Final Stage Unit (FSU) could be bad, or the problem could be with the Climate Control Unit (CCU). From a cost perspective you'd want to rule out the filters and FSU first. A growling noise from the fan indicates something stuck in the fan blades or bad bearings. To figure out which the fan is probably going to have to come out. thejlevie, Thanks for the reply. I think u r right. the problem seems to be with the Climate Control Unit, cuz today the air was working fine. How much do u think the unit would cost. is it easy to replace? Tried to figure out where the fan noise was coming from. Sounded like it was coming from the front of the car..perhaps the fan visible through the front? not too good with the terminology, only a beginner. Appreciate your help, I think that the entire CCU runs around $300. The FSU runs about $80 and the blower about $400. While it could be the CCU or blower, one of the symptoms of a bad FSU is that the blower may only operate at a single speed. So I'd start there. And you do want to make sure that the microfilters aren't part of the problem. If they are pretty dirty they will significantly reduce the volume of air delivered to the cabin. If you hear bad noises from outside of the car only when the A/C is on the problem will be with one of the belt tensioners, the A/C compressor, or the Aux fan (mounted in front of the radiator). The first step in fixing the problem is to localize the source of the noise. An automotive stethscope will help. |
