Pardon the newbie question but I am hoping that someone else had this problem. When ever I turn the steering wheel slightly to the right I get a hissing (almost like a pressurized line) coming from out of the dash. It has gotten more and more consistant. It cannot be the powere steering rack because it is coming from the dash.

Took it in for service and the service rep was able to replicate it and so they put it on the work order. I get the car back and they had replaced an Airbag ring or something but the steering is still making that noise. It feels like they just threw parts at it.

So has anyone seen or heard of anything like this? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

My first thought was the air conditioning expansion valve, but then you said it was related to the steering wheel. You would get a dragging, scraping sound with the rotating contacts for the horn, airbag, radio buttons, etc. Replacing the ring should have done it. I assume they lubricated the ring to BMW specs when the replaced the part.

Off topic, I just visited the Big Island in January. I hate the stress and travel of any vacation or residence change, but a 30 minute drive from the airport to the condo in a droptop Mustang had me ready to move 5000 miles from Atlanta. I just can't figure out what kind of job I would get. What do you do?

Hey all I am posting up just incase someone else has this problem and was wondering how to get it fixed.
Turns out that there is a vacuum hose (either a/c or emissions) that runs over the steering shaft and just w/ my daily driving (now up to 15,000mi) it had worn through the hose. BMW actually has a service watch out for it. They put in a new one and re-routed it to clear the steering shaft. No more hissing. They caught it the second time through. Though in all fairness I was hard pressed for time on the first trip and I don't think they had enough time to diagnose it fully so they just replaced the air bag slip(?) ring.
