Using Dex-cool coolant

Is it okay to use Dex-cool coolant? This is the same stuff as Prestone Prestone Extended Life 5/150 Antifreeze/Coolant, right? Being that both are Phosphate and Nitrate free....

The folks at Jiffy Lube flushed out the regular green coolant in my vehicle and replaced it with Dex-cool..

Thanks

I wouldn't want it in my car. It's earned the nickname "Death-cool" because of the problems it's caused in the GM cars it was designed for. Try Zerex G-05 or G-11. Search Google for Dex-Cool and see all the negative hits. Flush it out fast.

I used the Prestone long life stuff in my old BMW and Jeep and 2 motorcycles with no problems. Is the Prestone also in the category as the Dex Cool?

Thanks for the input everyone!

I use water. Has worked ok for my M3 for the past 6 years.

the one thing I can say is that you should under no circumstances treat it as an extended drain interval coolant. Flush it at the intervals you would any coolant.

They may say it's good for 100,000 miles, but I have a Tahoe on which I've replaced the radiator, intake manifold gasket, various fittings, etc etc etc. which says otherwise.

I think the firm handling the suit is out of Atlanta.

I understand if you don't treat it as a long life coolant it will be fine. I've been running it for about 6 months with 0 issues. YMMV etc
