I searched and didn't find any good answers. I just completed the installation of a UUC 8.5 lb. flywheel and e34 M5 clutch kit on my 1997 M3. Now I have this problem and I thought it wasn't suppose to do this with this combo. Here is the problem I have.
I'm hearing noise from under the car when I put the car in neutral and let the clutch pedal out. I notice it more when the car is warm and the noise stops when I push in the clutch pedal (even when the xmission is still in neutral). It's a rattling noise. The clutch seems to work fine.
Is there a fix for this? Did I do something wrong?
Thanks for any help
Jason
Sounds like normal aftermarket lwfw noise. Have you asked this question to UUC?
Nope, it the usual rattle from a ltw. flywheel on these cars. I've got the same setup and the same problem.
I've heard that it can be fixed/quieted with a different transmission fluid. You might want to contact UUC or check their webpage.
Naaah, nobody calls UUC to ask about UUC stuff. Why? :D :D :D
This is only in neutral with the clutch let out, no other time, correct?
You are experiencing transmission rattle from a lightweight flywheel... but of course, that's what the sprung-hub M5 clutch is supposed to reduce.
The sprung-hub center clutch disk has a break-in period of approximately 500 miles or so, after which that noise will reduce significantly.
If you still have some objectionable rattle left, a change to Redline MT-90 should cut it down another 85% or so, possibly eliminating it completely.
WHOA!!!!
Take it easy Rob. I wasn't born tomorrow! I did call and was told by Arjun to change to Redline MT-90 and it should fix it.
I was curious what other peoples thoughts were on this subject.
Information is power!!
I do not want to take anything away from the people at UUC they have all been more then helpful. I needed an alignment tool and the second day shipped me one. They also supplied me with the E34 M5 clutch kit so didn't have to worry about having the right parts.
I would highly recommend anyone who is looking at this for their car to contact them. Rob, Arjun, or Mike all were very very helpful and the product is great!

Well, as above, give it through the break-in period before you do anything. Your description is not atypical before the change.

Just to follow up! I changed my Tranny fluid to Redline MT-90 and it is quiet as a church mouse now!!!!
I can't say enough about how good the people at UUC are and how great this Clutch and Flywheel combo is.
how much is the clutch kit with the flywheel from uuc? i have to change my stock clutch soon and was thinking of going with the e34 m5 clutch kit. does the kit include everything i need like pressure plate and stuff?
I don't remember the exact cost but it was under $1000.00 for everything. I got the LTW. FLW,CLUTCH KIT, and TRANNY ENFORCERS! If I remember correct it was like $379.00 for the clutch kit.
I got the clutch kit off ebay for $285, after verifying the part numbers with the seller. It was SACHS, all new, and promptly shipped. All 3 parts too. Just do a search for "M5 Clutch" and it will come up.
There is always a better price. I could have got it cheaper also.
To me it was worth the extra money to know it was right. 3 places I contacted couldn't verify if the part was right. If UUC sends me the part and it is wrong you bet your ass they would be paying the labor to have it removed and the right part installed.
Better safe then sorry. IMO.
