O.K. a MONTH AGO, i WAS SIDE SWIPED AS A HIT AND RUN ON MY DRIVER SIDE QUARTER PANEL. tODAY, i WAS DRIVING AND EVERYTIME i SHIFTED GEARS, (MANUAL TRANNY) SOMETHING WOULD MAKE A LOUD POPPING SOUND. IT IS NOT THE ENGINE, I FEAR ITCOULD BE THE DIFF OR THE TRANSMISSION. bUT WHAT COULD BE WRONG WITH EITHER OF THESE THAT WOULD CASE THIS PROBLEM. pLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAVE ANY IDEAS. THANKS

I am not sure what you mean by a "popping" sound. If you said a "clunk" type of sound I would guess maybe the tranny mount could need replacing or the guibo or something like that in the drivetrain.
The noise seems to be coming from the passengers rear side near the rear wheel. it actually is more of a clunk sound. later on tonight when I was trying to diagnose the problem, things just got worse. I heard a squeeking noise coming from the back as I gave a little gas and pressed off. It sounded like a rusted non oiled throttle body oppening and closing but from the rear. I don't know what to do. how can i diagnose whether it is the tranny mount like you said or if it is the drivetrain. I'm thinking it could be the differential but my knowledge to the mechanics of cars is limited. So, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Someone who knows what to look for needs to get under there and inspect the suspect failure points.
