ABS sensors

'86 325 (also posted in the 3 Series (E30) forum)

The ABS has been pulsing on low speed braking (regardless of surface conditions). The problem is temperature dependent and usually clears up at temperatures above 40 degrees. Now, with the very cold temps the ABS faults (light on) as soon as the car hits 5 mph.

I've read some posts here and suspect a weak signal from one of the wheels caused by an open circuit at a sensor connector but I can't find the connectors. Every manual is dead set against doing this work yourself so I have no pictures to help.

Would someone, please, tell me where to look for the connectors of the ABS sensors.

Thanks.

The connectors for the front sensors are under the hood around the shock towers. The connectors for the rear sensors are under the rear seat. Just pull up on the front of the rear seat bottom to unlatch and remove. They are a faded yellow/orange color.

Also try cleaning the sensors. They pick up metal dust from the brakes which can degenerate the signal.

Thank you for the help. I found the front two and will dig into the back seat tonight. Might even find some spare change.
