Oil never gets hot in cold weather

In warm weather (above 40F), I don't have any problems. The oil heats up to 185-190F under normal conditions, and everything's fine. But if it gets colder than that, I start running in the 140-160F range, and now that New England has been experiencing near-0 temps for a while, I never rise about 120F. Even sitting idle (I know, it's bad for the engine, but I was experimenting) for about 10 minutes after driving around backstreets for 20 minutes, it only rose to slightly above 120F.

Since my coolant temperature gauge (the stock one) gets up to vertical within 5-10 minutes, I'm thinking my thermostat is fine.

I have the fan delete kit, with the lower temperature thermostat, but I had this problem with the stock thermostat, too.

Is there anything I can do to help the oil warm up?

Thanks!

Don't turn your heat on maybe?

I never turn the heat on unless I have a passenger who's complaining about the cold, or I need to defog the windows.

that can be bad oil thermostat, or your driving habits change drastically when its cold

What viscosity are you running? I had 20W50 (I think) in this summer and temps were fine. Put 5W30 in fo rthe winter and it stuggles to get up to operating temp. Others have noticed this too.

There's an oil thermostat? Hmm...I'll have to check my Bentley for that one. My normal driving habits (i.e.-not including when I'm trying to drive like an idiot) don't change for the winter.

I'm running Mobil1 5W30.
