Shock Absorbers

Hiya folks,

Just a quick question I have. Not sure if anyone will be able to help but here goes... :alright

I have an E36 318IS Coupe 1992 and I was trying to fit some new front shock absorbers.

Problem was when i went to put on the new shocks the top of the new ones were different to the old ones i had? Thing is that they are meant to be standard replacelent shocks - "Bilstein"

I couldnt get the top strut over the top of the shock as there wasnt enought thread to bolt it on?..Its quite hard to explain but are the standard replacements meant to be the same or do i need a new top strut part? or do i need to go back to euro car parts cos they gave me thre wrong parts!!!!!??

Hope someone can help! :dunno

There is a cutoff date about mid 1992 for the front struts. If you have a large cover on the strut tower in the engine bay (covers the entire center hole) or a little about 1 inch removeable cover then you have the late design.

I think this is the problem you are running into. You might need to get the other design.
