OK so i am stumped. I have a 92 325i (non vanos). Needed a new engine and got a great deal on a 95 Vanos 2.5. I didn't want to buy a harness and computer to run it so i droped in the cams and lifters from the non-vanos engine and I was going to run it on the old computer and harness. Everything went together fine but now the car won't run. I have spark, fuel, the injectors are pulsing but somthing is not timed right. It is obvious that the plug is firing while the intake valve is open. (back fire). I have checked and double checked the cam timing. replaced the cam sensor, crank sensor, ECU, checked that the ECU is getting signals from the cam and crank sensors. checked for injector pulse. checked the TPS and AFM and their signals to the ECU. Compression is good. coil packs have power. etc etc. But it wont run! i was looking at the cam position sensor mounting locations on the vanos vs non-vanos head and they look to be in the exact same spot, the entire heads seem to be the same for that matter. No vaccum leaks. I don't know where to go from here. I have the feeling that there is somthing wrong with the ignition timing but everything that controls it (to my knowledge) has been double checked and or replaced. The only other thing that crossed my mind was that the crank pulley is somhow turned from its correct location but if i remember correctly the bolts only line up one way and I have not had it off since i vought the engine. Does anyone know of a difference in the 2 heads that could cause this? or any other suggestions? Thanks for any help!

Very Technical post for someone w/ M50 building expericence. HELP!!
think it is something to do with crank sensor. the sensor might be in the same place, but how about what it's sensing. seems to me that the timing is out, i'll try to check out the etk, to see what other bits have different part numbers, and might have been missed. sounds to me like you didn't put the timing chain on right... ansver to your problem is crank pulley. you have to change it to your old one. |
