I changed the oil for the first time since i got the car today and put mobil1 10w-30 in it. After i finished the job i took it for a spin. the car felt much faster for some reason, seemed like the engine would rev up alot faster. is this all in my head??
ryan
Probably...
But, if you went with a lighter oil and even a synthetic over a dino oil, you may actually have a eeensy-weensy bit of better feel.
Still mostly in yer head though. Cool anyway, isn't it?
hehe, i kinda figured it was all in my head. Too bad the ass dyno isnt more accurate. Owell im gonna enjoy it while i can
How long had it been since the last oil change?
Heck, how much oil was in the car? If you noticed that much of a difference, I'm guessing you were low on oil.
synthetic oil adds .0000000000000000000000675 HP to the wheels. You must be very sensitive.

actually, an friend of mine did a oil change/dyno test with a supercharged VR6. Ran 20W50 on the dyno and had xxx hp. Changed the oil while at the dyno to a 10W30 synthetic and gained exactly 10 hp to the wheels. That thicker oil affects the powertrain significantly.
Kaiservon,
Was that car OBDII? I bet it was.
Yes it was. A 98 Jetta VR6
I just say this becuase usually on your second run with OBDII you gain HP.
GM increased HP on the Northstar motor by improving the lubrication system...it's not that far fetched.
...AND it works in Gran Turismo III ....take a car in for an oil change and get 10 "free" horsepower...he he he
OBDII may be a factor, but there are significant gains to be made with thinner or synthetic oils. Lower viscosity weight helps parts move easier.
