I have a '99 528iT that has a dampening problem on front passenger side.
Do I have to replace the strut asssembly or can I just replace the shocks? Dealer wants ~$1200:eek: for the operation and I just can't accept that it costs that much...am I dreaming?
jeez, don't you do price comparison on your own?
go to bimmerparts.com
check parts availability your model.
you will learn if strut cartridges are available-i doubt it.
you will learn what goes on front and rear if you don't have a manual.
BTW, springs are a seperate part from the strut. your dealer may be including springs if he says "strutassembly".
you may get very happy when you learn how much less web parts cost compared to the dealer's.
I have done plenty of online price comparisons. That was not the question.
I am trying to figure out what parts I need, not how much they cost.
It would seem that the dealer wants to replace the entire strut assembly and I have seen strut cartridges for sale that may take care of the problem.
It is clear that the strut assembly does not include springs.
good.
you know more about your problem than seemed obvious.
good luck
