When the car is first started it fires right up but then will idle very rough like it isn't firing on all of its cylinders and the rpms are low too. Then after a minute or two it is fine and idles smooth like it normally would. This is a new problem and just started the other day. Plugs look good and coil packs look ok. It has the M50 engine. Any ideas?

Rough running 525i 93 M50 Engine on start up?
in the low rpms when the engine is bad does it rumble and make the car rumble? No it only does it when it is first started cold. After that minute or so it is fine. Then if it sits for a 5 hours or so it may do it again but mostly once in the morning. Giving it gas doesn't help during the problem. If you turn the car to on, wait a few seconds then try to start it does it idle fine? I haven't tried this. What would this do? My car is doing this also. If I run the stereo with the car off for a while (battery level getting a little bit lower than normal) and then start the car, it has this rough idle for a minute. Then it goes away. It is almost like one or two coils aren't getting enough power to fire the plug or something. I have learned to ignore it, but if it is a sign of some bigger problem, I suppose I need to look at it. Originally posted by twilightcall I haven't tried this. What would this do? give the fuel system a chance to pressurize. If this fixes it it's losing pressure overnight and you have a basis on where to start looking. Might want to look at the elbow shaped rubber boot between the ox sensor and the intake. They sometimes crack in the accordian which will screw up your air mix. |
