Hi,
Back in 2000 I started a student current account with HSBC along with a credit card. Since then it has been my main card and the limit is up to 8,000 (current balance at 4,000 with the aim to pay it off by April 1st of next year). Over the past 24 months I have only missed one payment and that was due to a payroll error at work causing our pay to be delayed 24 hours (work paid the fee I was charged) so I was expecting to have a good credit rate but when I tried to apply for 0% transfer cards at the start of the year and in the summer I found that no-one would offer me any at all.
I have now obtained a credit report and have seen that the credit card is not listed against my name so it shows that I have no available credit and have no history of keeping payments up to date, which I believe to be the reason that I am unable to obtain any new credit cards. My current account is also not listed but I am unsure if that is meant to be.
So couple of questions;
Were HSBC obliged to register the card against me when I obtained it in 2000 and keep it up to date on my records since then?
How do I go about having the card added to my account now and would I stand any chance of claiming compensation over the interest I have been charged due to being unable to transfer the balance due to HSBCs error? (I would estimate this amount to be over 1,000 so far but would also presume that this is a long shot as I didn't pick up on the error until now)
Thanks for the help in advance.
Gavin
