I applied for a Virgin credit card last December (I think) as I was wanting to BT what I had on my existing card. I was rejected but didn't find out why.
That was my first attempt and I've never tried since. I ordered my credit report a few months ago and my score was in the good category (around about 920). Haven't checked the most recent one but I'll be doing that before I apply to see how much it has changed.
If the card is going to be in my name and my name only, would they check my girlfriends score too as hers isn't as good a score as mine (thanks to Abbey National). We were rejected a new mortgage because of something on her credit report but I'm not sure if credit cards work in the same way.
I can't see any reason why I'd be rejected again as I only have the one active credit card (one other active but no balance on it which will be getting cancelled when I pull my finger out), I've never missed a payment and all of my other finance accounts (new settee) are at a satisfactory level.
Can anyone help me? :)
Until the likes of Experian and Equifax start issuing their own credit cards, CRA "Scores" are meaningless and worthless, so save your money!
Check your reports for FACTS...Electoral Roll confirmation, up to date credit account information (lots of green zeros), not too many credit searches, and no surprise financial associations...as that's all the data that the credit card provider will see. He's not interested in your Experian (etc) score...he'll derive your "score" based on his assessment of your CRA data and the application information you provide.
Re searching your girlfriend's file, if you have an existing financial association (joint current account, loan, or mortgage) then yes, they'll search her as well...otherwise not.
I got turned down for every card I applied for except one. After doing a 'check your credit rating' which showed GOOD the only company to accept me was BT - probably because I'm a BT customer even though they are not exactly my favourtie company. They don't give cashback but you get a discount on your BT bill according to what you have spent. Spend up to 250 in any one month & all you get is .05p off your BT bill for every pound spent. Go above 250 and you get 1p for every pound spent above that. Not the best deal in the world but if you can't get a credit card try BT - it's better than nothing AS LONG AS YOU PAY IN FULL EACH MONTH!!! I had a total of 23.24 taken off by BT bill over a 10 month period. I pay for everything (that does not incur a charge for paying by credit card), car & house insurance, car tax, all help to get you above the 250 spend a month. So if you get turned down by the credit card firms offering a reasonable cashback offer don't try for one offering nothing - give BT a go if you're a customer of theirs.

How much did you get on the BT credit card?

We have the mortgage/unsecured loan and a joint bank account together (obviously). All bills are in my name.

Nah, I haven't bought anything in there for a while. I'm not boycotting it either though like others...I want him to stay as long as he spends money on players we actually need. If he gets rid of that chump Wise while he's there too I'll be even happier. Bringing KK back was a mistake and I think he's learnt from that.

You obviously ignored the first paragraph in post 2 or have taken no notice of it !
Why do people get 'hung up' on these fictitious scores ?

Ashleys staying, breaking news on SSN " club is off the market and no longer for sale " time for him to stand up and splash the cash - starting in 4 days time.

No...I did read it thanks and I'm not 'hung up' on it. If my score has gone up though, I assume that is because searches made more than 12 months ago have been removed from my file bringing the total number down and therefore increasing my chances of being accepted for any credit I may want to apply for?

I'm not complaining.
