Hi everyone,
My 6 months 0% BT period is just over today. I've left it until today thinking that I can just log into the Abbey website and make a payment online as you do with other Credit cards.
There is no online payment option in Abbey!
I looked behind the statements and it seems to say that the only online payment option is from an Abbey current account.
There is the over the counter "Bank Giro" option that has the sort code (090099) and account number (01000007) and a reference (my Abbey Zero card number).
Does anyone know if I can do an online bank transfer from another bank to this sort, account and reference number to pay off my Abbey Zero balance?
Thanks.
You should be able to send the payment to Abbey from your own on line banking.
I agree that it is not really good enough that (sh)Abbey do not have a facility to make payments on their own website.
When exactly does the 0% period end?
I did a BT on 20th June.
I think the 6 month 0% BT deal is dependent on when your card was issued, rather than the actual date the BT happened. I did a BT middle of June, but my expiry was 03/12/2008. Check your previous month(s) statements. It's actually written on there in the "Transaction Details" page.
Balance xxx Interest 0.000% To 2008-12-03.
I have don't have "Balance xxx Interest 0.000% To 2008-12-03" on transaction page !
Instead I have "Estimated interest on your next statement 0.00"
Not sure when mine 0% ends ?
PS: I didn't use Balance Transfer.
I think this is specific to Balance Transers because the line above "Balance xxx Interest 0.000% To 2008-12-03" is the item:
BALANCE TRANSFER INTEREST 0.00
The "Estimated interest on your next statement 0.00" is on the "Credit Card Statement: Summary" (written on the top right) page.
I guess, as long as I can see "Estimated interest on your next statement 0.00" on my statement, it means 0% purchases is still vaild. Correct?

Correct?I believe, like MBNA, any 'deals' end on your statement date. The big danger here, then, is you don't actually know you're paying interest until you've been paying it for a month.
If there is any doubt whatsoever about the precise end date of the 0% promotion, then phone Abbey and request the exact date that the promotion ends.
There has been talk that they were backdating promotions such that the promotion ended on 1st of the month during which the 6 months expired, so be careful.
Once you have the precise end date then ensure that you pay off your balance in full before that date and you should pay no interest.
From memory, it was the date of the 6th statement?
I think the wording is 6 months from the Date of Account opening.
As above I wouldn't rely on the estimated interest showing as zero. I would call them and request confirmation of the precise date.

Thank you! That's exactly what I'm looking for. I didn't want to send my money into "limbo" because it's a large sum (to me), and I don't have enough to pay it a second time.

That way, there are no last minute panics. ;)

From a post I made in a reply to you on the stoozing site......my credit agreement states VERY clearly when my 0% intro period ends...the statement date following the date which is 6 months after account opening.

I was close! :o

Good tip. I'll be more organised next time (if there are any zero fee BT cards out there!). ;)

Hmmm I don't actually have that wording. Mine says "6 months from Account Opening".
However, I was on the original Terms and Conditions (5 Minimum Payment) and as you know the promotion End Date was something of a bone of contention with me.
They never replied to my formal complaint so I would have been within my rights to escalate it to the FOS.
But I have decided to keep the card for a while and perhaps even try for a repeat next year.
Just for the record, sending an online payment to the sort code (090099) and account number (01000007) and a reference (my Abbey Zero card number) works. My balance is now cleared - and they seem to apply the credit quickly too. Payment sent from Bank of Scotland 4th of December, payment applied to my credit card account by Abbey on the 5th of December.
