barclaycard intial!!! advice from card holders

well im just wondering how this works i applied for this card the other day was accepted my card came today with the highest limit that the card offers (2000) it says that this is what there happy to start me off and will be looked at the longer i am a customer ie credit limits am i right in saying i wont get a increase because i have the highest limit on the card anyway or will they upgrade the card after a period of time proving myself as a good customer

please help im confussed

Doesn't a 2K limit indicate it's time for a 'mainstream' card application?

yes thats what i though but access denied haha dont know why

anyone??...........

am i the only one with this card then lol

I would give it a few months of good account conduct, paying on time, etc and then give them a call to see about changing product and apr.

I would also be wary. There are many posts on here about people being given a B/card with a good limit only for it to be dropped without you being notified to 260, sometimes even before the first statement has been issued.

I hope it does not happen to you, but I would be careful using it for the first few months.

Edit: it was not on just initial cards either it was customer issued with a Platinum Card with a few thousand as a limit and then bang they drop the limit and sent a letter implying it is your fault and refusing to put it back.

really no way thats crazy if you have managed your account well what is there problem just lowering your limit well i will just have to wait and see

It is crazy, if they wanted your limit to be 260 they should give you 260 in the first place no mess you about, but I am sure others who it happened too will contribute to your thread otherwise you could try doing a search on say barclaycard limit and see if you find anything.

i did try and find a thread but nothing on it well i could not find any anyhow yeah i know what you mean about starting them and reducing it before the first statement why approve a bigger limit!

Darcy , that happened to me .I had standard B'card - ten years nearly . The last two years the limit was going up then down then down then up then down!! and the apr's was going up...
I called and asked why? no straight answer except check my credit file , my files are the best they have always been!

no way london thats well bad i hope it does not end up like that for me what activity do you have on account ie carry a balance pay in full?

my payments were spot on etc - also with other companies they are and were spot on. I have read loads of people in the same boat on here. Google - 'Barclaycard credit limits'. Anyway use it too your advantage and build up a decent row of greens etc and then go for a better card..

i am going to keep this card for a year with a 0 balance when it come to 12 months i will be applying with the big boys i think!

im looking to take out a mortgage soon so that should help with the score too

thats what I would do mate , good luck.

cheers for the input london

Darcy have you tried HSBC for a credit card?

I had a barclaycard Initial for a year and I started off at 2,000 which was the highest. At the time I was being declined for more "mainstream" cards.

They never increased the limit, but they did increase the "cash limit" - at first I was only able to take out 600 of my limit as cash, and they did increase this figure over time. Not very helpful really!

I would do as others have said - manage the card well for a few months and then ring them and see if they will move you to a better product.

Hi there,

I was wondering how long it took you to recieve your card from application to getting it in your hand. I ask because I have been approved for this card 6 days ago and was hoping we would recieve it by the 15th dec :-) Thanks Lisa xxx

it took a week i applied on a wed and got it following wed!

nzseries1 did you get and upgrade from them?

nzseries1 did you get and upgrade from them?

After a year when I went to close the card, they did offer to move me to a 16.9% APR card, which would have been fine but at that time I'd already been approved for a Bank of Scotland 10 months interest free on purchases so I didn't need to take them up on their offer.

Just thought id let you know I applied for the Barclaycard on Monday and I recieved the card on Saturday. 2000 limit 600 cash.

same as me lisa do you know which card they were going to upgrade you to and did you have any nasties on your credit file nzseries??

same as me lisa do you know which card they were going to upgrade you to and did you have any nasties on your credit file nzseries??

No, no nasties, but my problem was that I had nothing at all on my credit file, I hadn't had credit cards or loans or anything before. Can't remember which card they tried to upgrade me to sorry, it was a while ago now!

do they actually upgrade your card or is this just rubbish also how long do you have to have this card before they will upgrade

i had an initial for a while, they then upgraded it, and doubled my credit limit!

so it does happen

i dont see why people want huge credit limits unless theyre actually going to use them. i'm happy with my 3500 limit on my card, because the most ive ever owed it was 150 when i bought a laptop... and it was paid off 3 days later :)

anyone else been upgraded from this card?
