Natwest Credit Card - am I declined or accepted

Hi there,

In September, as I went into a Natwest branch to pay in a cheque, I was asked by the cashier if I want to apply for a credit card - I am eligible for one. That time, I thought Natwest still does those 0% purchases, so I said yes, and applied with a customer advisor in branch - was told I was approved a 1200 limit Classic Credit Card.

I waited for a few weeks and heard nothing back from Natwest. So I called them. The agent told me I was declined. I asked them have they sent me a letter? He said yes.

A few weeks past, still no more letter. Called the Card Centre, this time the agent told me they wanted more information from me - if I could send them my current account statements and a proof of address.

I am still thinking whether to send those in (as I just realised it's 4.9% on purchases, not 0% - so still thinking about it, no savings account pay 6% anymore to make this worthwhile.)

But today, I received a letter from Natwest Card Services, saying that my card application is successful, I should receive my card and pin in the next few days, together with an insurance policy booklet, detailing the 30 day cancellation period etc.

I am totally confused - have I actually got the credit card or not??

Thanks!

That is really confusing! I don't really know what to advise. Just wait and see what arrives in the post I suppose?

happened to me when i opened a business account with the co-op

applied

heard nothing for about 3 weeks, so i phoned

clerk told me it was declined, so i thought OK

went out and applied to Barclays, 2 days later i get a letter saying welcome to co-op then chequebook, pin and card etc

so i'd guess you were successful if you got the letter saying yes

A similar thing happend to me when i asked for a Maestro/Switch service card on my Natwest current account, when i was in branch i was told i was accepted and one will be sent to me, nothing arrived after a few weeks so i rang the call centre, they said there was no record of it but after re-apply over the phone, i was declined for it. But then 2 weeks later i received a letter saying i qualified for a maestro card and one would be sent to me within 2 weeks, which it did.

Natwest are a law unto themselves. Happy post watching!
