Section 75 claim different from MBNA deposit claim

Hi All

We had flights booked with XL due to leave for Egypt in October. Obviously very disappointed we went about trying to claw back the money we had paid for the flights. We had paid 480.00 deposit by MBNA credit card, and so immediately registered a claim with MBNA for that amount. Many weeks later, I realised that under section 75 I could actually claim the FULL amount (2k+) for the flights, so contacted MBNA to adjust the claim. It would now appear that I have two claims ongoing with MBNA, both being dealt with by different departments. The second full claim is being dealt with by the "section 75" dept, the 480 deposit one being dealt with by another dept. MBNA have just told me that they will be returning the 480 in the next couple of days, and that if there is any further money due from section 75 dept it will be returned minus the 480.

My questions: does anyone know why the deposit claim is not being dealt with by the section 75 dept? Will I run the risk of not getting the full amount if I accept the 480 payment?
MBNA have told me all this is standard practise, but I'm not particularly trusting.

Thanks for reading!
