Just got a missed call on my mobile as i didnt hear it ring. The number i have traced is to "Credit Card Applications: 0800 028 3260 Mon - Sun 0700 - 2200"
I rung them back and the guy said that the number doesnt appear on their system - even tho i rung him on it so i cant find out what they wanted. Im slightly worried as i was recently a victim of debit card fraud and worried that whoever did it may have got my details and tried to open a credit card in my name, thus Halifax are ringing to confirm something
He also said they dont cold call so cant be someone trying to sell me a card

Tricky one! If it's important they'll almost certainly ring back, although I can appreciate that waiting on a call isn't going to ease your concerns about ID theft. Other than chasing Halifax some more, and hoping you get to talk to a more clued in CSA, the only other thing I can think of suggesting is to check with the CRAs to see if any checks, relating to CC applications, have appeared on your file lately.
Hope you manage to get to the bottom of it swiftly and painlessly! :)

Cheers. I know Halifax normally use landlines to contact people on for security reasons. And if someone did take a card out in my name, surely using my mobile number is abit daft as as soon as they ring me they would know it was a fraudulent application. It could ne nothing (ive had Halifax ring me before trying to sell me a card, but on my landline). Im just abit paranoid at the moment due to recently being stung for fraud
Is there no way i can contact the CRA over the phone to check or even check with the bank?
Out of interest, what details are needed to open a credit card? ive just had aquick look online and it seems name/address and dob is enough. Is that all the checking they do?
It's true that Halifax don't "cold call" - but they do contact some people with some form of other HBOS product to offer a credit card. So that may have been why they called. That could be easily checked if the call centre e-mails the marketing team to check their records.
Edit - I re-read the above posts properly and just to add, Halifax will call mobiles as well as landlines.
They have never rung my mobile before however. Anyone who has got one of these calls, do you know what number you were rung from?
The guy did say aswell that he was working in a call centre, rather than some department of Halifax (which i would imagine that they would ring from if it was something important) if that makes a difference
Well i didnt receive a call today, so maybe it was nothing and just some marketing thing. 2 months ago i wouldnt of given it a second thought, but im ultra paranoid at the moment due to being a victim of online fraud
