Hi. I just received my 5% cashback this month. Do you think its possible for me to cancel the card, re-apply and then start gaining 5% again?

I don't think so. Call AMEX and ask them. I think the promotion only applies to new customers and that you have to wait six months between applications.

I would think of you cancelled they would have a record of it when you try to re-apply. Is there a fee for having an Amex platinum? Or does it really save money to have one?

You have to wait 6 months after closing the account before you can reapply as a new customer. Then you will get any offers that are available at that time.
