Hi
I am shortly due to pay for my holiday at a cost of 4k, however i am reluctant to pay the charge if i use my credit card(mastercard), which would be 2%. I do appreciate that there are "insurance/peace of mind" benefits using a credit card especially in this financial climate. I have a debit card endorsed bwith the "VISA logo".
Q. If i use my debit card do i have the same protection as my credit card, and i would not incur charges.
Visa cards have the industry recognised 'chargeback' proceedure, for ultimate safety I would use a credit card, and try and get further discount on the holiday to compensate.
Stick 1 (or, if they have a minimum 2 charge, 100) on the credit card, and put the balance on the debit card.
Or in the current climate, why not just negotiate that you won't pay the charge? I expect that they will want the sale!
What the above poster says is true, stick 100 on your credit card and you will enjoy protection on the full amount of the holiday.

The VISA "chargeback" system on a debit card does not give the same protection as a credit card.
The word "chargeback" has been widely misused of late, in particular with reference to airline failures.
"Chargeback" actually means that VISA will recover your money from the trader you paid for a product or service that is "not delivered". If that trader has gone bust your money cannot be recovered. Some VISA finance houses have been refunding money from their own pockets - in this present financial climate it will be interesting to see how long that lasts.
The answer to the OP's problem is to pay a bit of the cost by credit card and the rest by any other method. They are then covered under the Sect 75 route.
