Help understanding my credit card

Hi, I'm a student and have a natwest student credit card for emergencies, and in the past have paid it off in full every time I've used it. I'm waiting for my bursary to come through and have used it to buy xmas presents and car insurance etc etc. I thought I had everything added up properly but clearly I didn't and I've gone over my credit limit by 20 in the last couple of days. I've paid money into the account so I'm not over anymore but am I going to get charged for this? This has all happened in what will be one statement. I've literally only used it once or twice before now so I have no idea what will happen, and would really appreciate some help.

You will almost certainly get a 12 overlimit fee on the account.

I would speak to them nicely and explain the circumstances, as its a "first offence" they may just cancel the fee as a gesture of goodwill.

Can you do that sort of thing? Would it be better to call them or go into the branch? It might not be too much to other people but an unbudgeted-for 12 really screws our week!

Yes you can speak with them, if you get a lenient CSA they are known to remove late fees on a "one-off" basis. You can usually get this sorted just by calling them, perhaps if they don't play ball then visit your branch.

Good Luck.
