Idiotic Mistake...i need help Credit Card scam

Ok i was tricked into signing up to a 'dodgy' website, i immediately cancelled the subscription through a website called Adinhelp.com. Through further investigation on the internet i found that the adinhelp website was affiliated to a number of other websites which attempt to also charge credit cards subscription fee's. I really want to stop this before they start to charge my credit card, they havent charged it yet but should i still contact my credit card company and explain my situation? will they just cancel my old card and if so is there any other way for these dodgy companies to keep on charging me...?

Please help im sick with worry here..

So Im guessing u gave all ur credit card details, can you get online to your credit card account and cancel any direct debits etc that have been set up.

First thing 2mor morning, ring ur credit card company, but also put everything in writing, and be prepared to post it recorded or special delievery. The credit card company will help u, your not the 1st or wont be the last to of got duped.

Also consider looking at ur credit report, if you sign up with experian, they do a 30 day free trial, that way u can check daily on the account and nip anything in the bud.

x

Thanks for the advice, i will phone them asap! I already have experian and im usually very careful with my details....feel like such a clown for falling this once. One query i have is how any payments will be effected if they cancel my card,(my experian subscription is on my credit card) will they just transfer these over to the new card?

OP, just give your card provider a ring and come clean.

If they change the account, they should also carry the payments across, but to be on trhe safe side, id double check myself (but thats me!). x

well thanks to you both. You have eased my worries a little. I guess i'll phone the credit card company as you said and ask them how they think its best to deal with it. Never again will i be stupid enough to make the same mistake...

would be nice to hear how you get on and what the credit card company do about it.
good luck

Ok i tried phoning up my credit card company and they basically said they cant do anything about it unless my card does actually get charged.

This seems a bit of a pain since this means im going to lose money at some point before they will cancel the card. I guess i'll have to keep my fingers crossed in the next few days and hope that the company i had the subscription with has gone straight.....another night of no sleep woohoo!

You shouldn't lose or have to pay anything. When you see the charge, you phone the CC company and contest it. They will send you a form to complete, but they should put the charge on hold until the matter is sorted. If they find in your favour, you will have paid nothing and owe nothing, but of course if you contest a charge that they say was your responsibility then you will have to pay the amount sooner or later.

Good luck with this one. I think a lot of people will have made similar mistakes and will be interested to know how things turn out.
