Home-Card charges when booking flights

Card charges when booking flights

Is there any way of avoiding credit or debit card charges when booking flights?

I just booked a return flight with Thomson and they don't accept cheques so they have you over a barrel every time at 2-2.5%. Can they accept cheques? Are there other ways to bypass this?

You've already answered your own question.

Pay a small deposit by credit card (for Section 75 cover,) pay the balance by debit card.

I'm not sure about Thompson, but I've used Ryanair and Flybe and used an Electron card in the past, there's no fee for this. It's basically a sort of debit card, so you don't get the protection that you do with a CC, but it avoids the fee ( you do need to have the money in the account, just like a Debit card ). See if your bank will let you open an Electron account. My account is always empty, and I just transfer the amount I need in to it from the main account whenever I want to book a flight.
