how long do credit searches remain on your file?

1 year i think.

Thanks Sutton. For some reason I thought/hoped it was only 6 months.

I've just discovered I have 8 searches on my Equifax in the past 4 months. 5 of those searches are either BT or o2 so I'm thinking future lenders would at least see it was only phone services I was shopping around for and not excessive credit cards or loans.

I think most lenders look at the last 6 months.
