Home-Card payment protection

Card payment protection

Hi,
Looking for some valuable advice from you clever people.

Last month (OCt 08) I made one purchase on my credit card (Lombard Direct Mastercard). The statement arrived showing this purchase and added to this was payment protection on this purchase. The total amount due was paid off in full and well in advance of the required date from my card issuer.

This months statement shows the above transactions and payment rec'd etc all in full and in time. As far as I would understand I would therefore have a balance of zero pounds and zero pence, however the statement shows a payment protection charge for 79 pence. I have made no purchases in any form from last months one purchase.

I have rung my card issuer and am either met with a stoney silence or have been told this is protection incase I required to claim whilst the previous payment was being processed. This I do not understand. I can understand the protection being applied if I had made purchases for this months statement but as mentioned before I have no purchases and no outstanding amounts, other than this 79 pence being added for payment protection.

Can any of you clever people advise on whether this charge is relevant and if not how to approach the card issuer to discuss the charge being removed.

I'm not sure, but it sounds like your card has payment protection insurance on it and will be charged for that every month. I would ask the card people to cancel the insurance if you do not think you will need it.
