Section 75

Hi,

I'm a complete newbie so i apologise if this makes no sense!

Me and my partner recently bought a car and paid for it on the credit card. When we went to collect the car we were told that there was a bump in the door and it required a new trim. We are still waiting for this to be done and was told we would be contacted when the part arrived and when the work can be done. We have since found that the front under bumper trim keeps falling off and there is a crack in the rear passenger side brake lights that seems to have just been glued on.

Do we have reason to contact our credit card company and say that car isn't in the state that we were told it would be in?

Thanks

Alan

IMO not a hope in hell.
Why didn't you spot the light BEFORE buying - do you have a warranty?

If so that is your best bet IMO.

It can be difficult to assess a used car fully in a single viewing so I can see how certain things may get missed.

You definitely have recourse with the dealer over the bump in the door because they have promised to fix it. You should persue them on this, and at the same time mention the other issues. If they are a professional outfit they should rectify all the issues.

If they do not fix the bump in the door, then I think you could speak to your card provider about the supplier not keeping to their word.

If you are not satisfied with the overall service from the dealer, then I would consider talking to Trading Standards about them. Used Car dealers are renown for sharp practice and Trading Standards do like to keep an eye on them.

With regard to the issues they didn't agree to fix prior to sale, if they argue with you about them, how about suggesting a compromise situation whereby you split the cost of the repair with them ?

Used cars are not selling well at the moment, and the dealer won't want to much in the way of bad publicity.

Good Luck.
