Virgin Money - Stopped Card!

Hi
I currently have a Virgin Credit Card. During a difficult time 2 years ago, i was practically living of it and owed them over 5000, then they stopped my card. I then managed to pay of 3500 and they still stopped my card. I am now in a position where i have a credit card with a 6000 limit where i owe 1100 but the card is still not able to be used. Can i ask them to close the account as they wont let me use the card and the interest they are charging me are for if i was using the card surely?
Can anyone help?

Thanks

You can't close your account until you've paid off what you owe.The interest being charged is on the money already borrowed under the T&Cs that would of been in force then.It realy does'nt matter wether or not you use any of the remaining credit limit or not,as already said the interest is for the money already spent.
Why not try ringing Virgin and explaining what you have said here and see if they will unblock your card.
Sorry can't be more helpful.

Well they're hardly going to close the account when you still owe the money are they?

You need to contact them to make arrangements to repay the money you owe.

The interest they're charging you is for the amount you owe.

Like the previous poster said, the easiest way to sort this is to pay back the rest. From that they won't issue you another card or let you use the existing one, so its probably best to cut it up.

Sounds an ideal situation, you will get rid of the debt much sooner if you can't start throwing more debt into it.

Thanks for all your replies. Have now just set up a payment to cover more than the interest to clear it quicker.

Actually, in response to this slightly sarcastic answer, I closed my Virgin credit card account yesterday, I owe £3199 on it and have just arranged payment for the balance today, which will not be credited to the account until next week - the poster is only asking a question, and your response was wrong. Yes, I have closed my account, as I telephoned them today and they confirmed that it is closed, logging into my account online it tells me it is closed and I have had it confirmed by Virgin via telephone that it is closed and cannot be reopened.

To the original poster, the best thing to do is to see if you can apply for another card, or to pay off the 1100 you have outstanding on your existing card, after speaking to Virgin if they won't unblock your card.

Hope this helps a bit.
