| I was served on saturday for a bill from 13 years ago i live in mass its over 3000.00 I have not the money to pay it or i would gladly.I have called this lawyer and asked him if he could just put it in bad debt this past summer and leave me alone but he keeps taking me to court.It is not on my credit report anymore i went for credit counseling this past summer and they suggested i call him. I have to go to court on tuesday and i dont want to sighn anything until i know my rights. does anyone know where i can get help. Thanks Jen Ask this lawyer what the statute of limitations on comsumer debt is and if you have not paid anything on the debt in that period, you will not have to pay. 13 years is well beyond any SOL that I am aware of. The credit counseling service gave you bad advice, the lawyer only gets paid if he collects, he has no desire to help you get out of this. I would suggest buying a half hour of an attorneys time and discuss this matter with him. With the right advice, you could easily win this in court. |
