What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? I live in New York but being sued in New Jersey.

I have posted a week or so ago but now I have new question, any help would be appreciated as I don't know what course of action to take. I will try to be brief and thanks for any help I can get.

It is stated in my divorce papers that my ex-husband agreed to pay all the bills even the ones that were in my name only. As far as i knew he was paying the bills. He is in the military and has since left New Jersey for a new command in MS. I received a summons about one of the bills and I answered that summons and today I got a notice that a non-jury trial has been set for the end of August. I sent my ex's command a letter stating everything but have not yet heard anything from them. I don't have the money to pay for the whole bill. Can I take my ex to court here in New York and sue him for the amount owed? Do I call the lawyer for the company (It's for a Sears Credit card) and see if I can work out some kind of payment plan with them and still sue my ex. (and hopefully not go to court in New Jersey) or should I just file for Bankruptcy for all the bills. I have not heard anything from other creditors about non payment and we have been divorced for over a year now and so I am hoping the other bills are being paid. I am just so confused and not sure of what to do. It has never been my intention to not have the bills paid. When I first found out about this I told my ex that I would request a copy of the itemized bill for all charges and that whatever was mine I would pay for. I do know that 98% of the bill was for his tools and boat motor and auto accessories and fishing stuff and so on.
