Hi. I am a victim of identy theft this past Feb. I contacted the local police department (have a current case) and sent certified letters to the 3 of the major credit agencies. In this letter, I notified them that I want a seven year fraud alert statement on my file and they were only allowed to give out information when they have contacted me at a specific number in person. Each certified notice was sent back signed and dated. Now, several months later, I went to purchase a car. Informed the financial institution they may have trouble getting in touch of my report and process the loan. Nope, they got through with TransUnion, no problems. In fact, they told me that the credit report did not even have the fraud statement on there. They even showed it to me in which I saw more fraudalent activity on the report. I ordered another credit report to view in my own privacy. But since, TransUnion was one of the agencies I sent the certified letter too, what is my recourse now for these fraudalent purchases?
