i got some wokke chips and now i need a little help please
Its an automatic 91 850i with the 352 dme's
Installed both chips properly, but did not install the EML chip... (too complicated to separate the pcb's) is it optional or required? because now im getting a red check engine light and significant performance loss... takes like 10 secs to accelerate to 20mph :(
i thought maybe i mixed the chips up, but that would mean my engine woudent even start right? so instead of taking it apart again, i just switched the cables... same result except tach and mph needles wont move (car moves) and brake light is on...
Im 100% sure the chips were facing in the right direction.
any ideas?
Sounds like you got one or both of the chips installed upside down? Those Chips in correctly will put a BIG smile on your face.
You can install just the DME chips, although I would put all 3 in (what am I saying? I did put all 3 in). Did you do the DK-synchronization procedure? The DME chips can go into either DME (the DME's are interchangeable).
The EML pcb is not at all complicated to seperate, you need to only "lift" one side a bit and you should be able to access the chip. I used a pair of forceps (fish hook removers..) and it worked quite nicely and quickly.
Could it be that you installed one of the chips backwards? (would present itself much like Limp Home Mode).
what's the dk sync procedure and how do I do that?
I followed wokke's instructions very closly and made absolutley sure the chips weren't upsidedown cus he warns that doing so will ruin it...? I'll double check that again tomorrow... It also says that dme 352 chips are not interchangeble.
www.e31faq.com (http://www.e31faq.com) has the DK-synch or "coast-down procedure.
DME's are interchangeable...

I got in trouble for that procedure once. You may want to find a very empty road or let the police know if you live in a concrete jungle like me.

why? Is it too loud?
swapped the chips just to make sure they were in the correct place; still no go...
feels like the emergency brake is engaged but its not
The engine sounds noticeably better and louder, but the car is slow! hand brake light goes off and so does the red check engine light and the traction control light.
even tried the coast-down procedure but nothing...
I dont want to flip the chips to the other orientation though, as that will probably break them? im positive they are facing the right way and not upsidedown (the little notch on the short ends)
so recap,
Swaped the chips with eachother
did the coast-down procedure...
no good
afraid the change the orientation as the tutorial site says that will brake them.
Most likely the chips are fried possible due to electro static... Did you wear a wrist band when installing? You could even damage the DME boards if not careful.. Or possible the chips were corrupted from the get go. Where did you get them from, Wokke or the $100 cheaper guy, what's his face?
Regardless of the source I will ask the source to replace them for free only if your old chips work fine and you don't have any issues. So before contacting the source put your old chips back and see how everything works... Just to be sure I will unplug the batteries and have everything reset...
Hope this helps....

got them from wokke himself...
and i was pretty careful about static. :(
I'm sure Wokke will take care of it............he's a great guy....and I'm sure he has seen this before.........contact him......
thanks for all the help guys!
i put my old chips back in and the car runs fine... I was getting scared there that I'd damaged the car. those things aren't cheap ;)
Corrupted chips is very usual and may be the problem. And like pumped said, Wokke will take care of you and he does have a good reputation..... Let us know how it goes....

What was the outcome? Chipped or unchipped?? Just wanna see if your having fun yet.
Wolf took care of the situation... the chips are great! big smiles!
Nice! Enjoy the big improvement!
how can you tell if you have performance chips installed or not?
i mean without taking the ECU apart or testin her on a dyno.
...besides those two obvious ways, you can always ask a psychic...
...besides those two obvious ways, you can always ask a psychic...
ok...
i had to step away from the laptop for a second---- to cool off.
because i really don't think that my legit question warrants an answer like the one you just gave me.
i bought my car from someone else, with a set non stock m-5 rims.
i don't know how much else is changed from the stock vehicle.
and ... since i am fueling my car with 87 instead of 93 my EML light comes on when i first turn on the car.
that is why i start to wonder, if i maybe have a different chip in my ecu, and a performance chip
calls for 93.
Actually other than taking the cover off of the ecu and reading the label on the chip a psychic is the only choice :(
Sometime the installer wrote something on the case--my 840 says it has a Dinan chip that only was in for about 2 days after I bought the car. Then the Wokke chip went in:)
Dinan provided a label on the top of the diagnostic connector warning the next shop not to flash the chip back to stock. Other than that the cover needs to come off.
Be happy that you don't have an 840 because you end up "removing" a circuit board to reach the chip.

Even if you chip your car (an M70) you will NOT need to run anything higher than 87 octane. It is a function of the compression ratio. Even with a "chipped" M70, the compression ratio stays the same. As for having to cool off, that won't be the last time you will need to do that. Try to imagine how we feel sometimes...
As for a legit question, come on! You answered your own question in the "...besides taking the ECU apart or testing on a dyno" part of the question. The answer you got from me is just as "legit" as the question you posted.
As we told you in Florida, you have a way to go to get your car looking like the examples you were admiring. A good piece of advice is to start reading some of the repair manuals (can be downloaded from wuffer.net) and become acquainted with the 8. We are all here to help, and I believe you have not fallen short in that department, now taking the advice that was given you is a different story, but to each his own.

i will always take your advise. but i would also like to ask for your patience, as i and maybe other newbies here (?) will take some time to get the knowledge you have.
what for instance is puzzling me too, is the fact that i have what looks like edc shock absorbers (boge) in the front and rear. but no switch on my center console. is that normal? or did someone put that in aftermarket?
If you have EDC struts there should be a connector coming thru the strut tube. Non EDC has no holes or connectors on the strut tube.

btw... i ask for apology, i think, i hijacked this thread... now back to our regular programming
