Magnaflows installed today... Lots of pics...

I got a set of Magnaflow mufflers installed today.

Damn, the car growls a lot at 1900rpm; car is no longer serenely quiet whilst cruising the city. I guess that I'll have to get used to the sound that it makes now - no doubt it is diff. than stock.

I elected to reuse my slip-on BMW OEM chrome tips. I think that the tips stick out about an inch too much. I'm going to have the installer cut off about an inch off of the chrome slip-on tips. What do you guys think about it? I'm going to have the CSi rear valence installed in the next few weeks.

I think the tip sticks out too much, definietly have it shortened. THe dia is also a bit on a smallish side. I like the magnaflow larger diameter. I'm curious why didn't you leave the magnaflow tips on it ? They have 8 different design with a same can.
otherwise I know the sound (I have them) and I think it looks good on your car too !
did you painted the cans ? Mine are all stainless along with a large tips ! I'd post some pics but I'm a young poster here so no right to poast pics yet.
...ditto on the tips, but I think you might have them backwards (inboard mixed with outboard from other side). Powder coated cans here, and you?
You must be a photographer or something, All your pics come out so crisp*** The rear tips should be about 3" diameter to take up the gap between and also fill up that cut out for them, It's especially noticeable when you install the rear diffuseser, Your car always looks fantastic.

I'm going to install 14816's, Also Magnaflows, I will have to get the outside tip removed and shortened for the same staggered look as you and Red.
I would agree with you Koizumi, they're about an inch to long. But the car does look nice! You keep her very clean. Now to all of you guys running the Magna's,are you using the 5x8 cans and having the muffler shop do the tabs for mounting?I want to put them on my 850 and I want to go stainless.Any suggestions??
The tips are on the right way, the parallax distortion makes them look like they might be on the wrong way in some of the pics.

I just had the back flat rear-facing part of the mufflers painted black (the mufflers are stainless).

Interesting comments about the diameter of the tips - - thanks, gentlemen. Your advice has prompted me to most likely have some larger diameter tips installed. And I will have them also be shorter so that they fit more flush with the rear valence & bumper. I like the staggered look, and I will preserve this asthetic with new replacements.

BTW, can you guys recommend a tip that will go well size-wise and shape-wise with this car? I'm not sure how big I should go. I'm assuming that the CSi rear valance does not inhibit the overall diameter size, since the maximum allowable size appears to be dictated by the lower bumper exhaust opening(s).

8eights, yes, photos are one of two professions that I have :)
I was kinda thinking about these Magna 14861 tips:

Details:

Double Wall Angle Cut Rolled Edge
2.25" Inlet
3"x3.75" Tip Diameter Dual Tips
7" Tip Length
5x8 Oval Body
14" Muffler Body Length
Mine are the 14816..........

Here's a pic with the Diffuser:
So the rear CSi diffuser valance does not fit into the 'curved' shape of the bumper? Is it a better idea to have the exhaust tips be in the same line as the back of the bumper, or to have the tips slightly shorter (thus a little underneath) than the back bumper?
I like the saggered look of yours, I was just showing you how it looks when the tips are a 3.5 diameter with the Csi rear installed, You see that the tips set the stage. If the blue car had your staggered tip look, Then it would be perfect, IMO!
3.5" diameter tips are the way to go for sure (I appreciate that you posted that pic above). Yeah, I like the staggered tip look.

Tomorrow morning I'm going back to the muffler shop.

Cheers

I made mine out of 1/2" stainless steel rod bent to the correct offset, welded on and then black coated (took about 10 minutes for all 4)... 5x8 cans and all the muffler shop had to do is tighten the mounting plates and weld the pipe..

...Hybrid? :confused
burns gas and rubber...

...actually the story goes somewhat like this: I had just gotten my 850 back from a complete repaint (all parts removed and painted off the car) and was about to fill the tank for the first time at Walmart, when a new Toyota Prius pulls up on the other side of my pump. An older Birkenstock wearing guy gets out and starts getting gas himself. He looks over and comments" nice car...", I thank him , and he finishes with: "it's a$$hole$ like you that are ruining it for the rest of the population , with your polluting, gas-guzzling cars". I replied with: "come again??"... He proceeded to lecture me about my sins and selfishness in driving a V12 to which I replied" ...but at the end of the day, you are still only driving a Toyota, and an ugly one at that! He was quiet for a few minutes and I then told him that I thought about it and was actually sorry for my comments, and he was right that I shouldn't drive my 850 on a daily basis. I then left him to ponder this: "I guess I will start driving my HUMMER H2 from now on..."

Anyway, ever since I put the HYBRID emblem on, people are commenting on how nice it is to see that BMW has such cool looking HYBRIDS coming out - I tell them the car is actually a 1993 model and they are then even more astonished and say "I didn't realize BMW has been making HYBRIDS for such a long time"

Goes to show you who the smart one really is....
People's rudeness never ceases to amaze me.

Did you ask him where the flush handle on the Prius is? Those things look like toilets to me!
Did you remove the center resonator?
Not yet, I am still thinking about that one...
Did you remove the center resonator?

No because the Magnaflows are loud as is. Any louder and it would be annoying to listen to inside the car whilst driving in low gears around town.

At around 1900rpm with a medium heavy stomp of the foot on the gas, it's quite loud with the windows down. Windows up, too :eyecrazy
Hmm, that concerns me. I was thinking of getting some magnaflows sooner or later because my stockers are very rusty, but I like quiet.
If u want quiet, go for OEM. The Magnaflows have a distinct snarl that comes & goes at various points in the 1000rpm-2000rpm range. As you already know, OEM is essentially silent throughout.
Excellent choice of pipes the car looks crisp Koizumi, i must take some pics of mine this weekend and post. Please tell me the best way to post pics on here as i dont know.

Thanks

Hit the "go advanced" button under the reply box. Then type your message and click on the little paper clip icon at the top of the message dialogue box and it will open another window where you will be able to upload your files. The pics are limited to 150kB per pic, but that is very big for the post.
TxGR8White, Did you upgrade your cats when you did your system?

No, I didn't. I don't quite have the "rumble" that I was hoping for, but I plan on going back to the muffler man and have the stock resonators removed. If that proves to be too loud, then I will need to put in a pair of universal resonators (much smaller ones though) and hopefully get the sound where I like it.
I took my resonator out, but have remus mufflers. I would like to put high flow units on.
