Just got my new to me axles. A dana 44 rear with disc brake conversion, detroit locker, and 456 gears and a dana 30 front with lockrite locker, 456 gears, and warn hub kit. I have a few questions about them so I'll just list them 1. What is best way to change inner axle seals on the 44? 2. The yoke seal on the 30 leaks sitting on the floor tilted down should I change seal or just tighten yoke nut? 3. What could the disc brakes have come from that are on the rear? 4. Will my stock brake booster handle all four calipers? 5. What is the best product for painting the axles? 6. What gear oil should I run in both? Both need changed. Sorry for all the q's but figured I would get it over with in one post. Thanks in advance bump bump bump 1. take the axles and carrier out use a bar the length of the axle from the outside of the axle tube hit the seals into the meatball 2. change the seal they are like 7 bucks you are looking for a pinion seal, put a pipe wrench on the yoke to hold the pinion from spinning torque the pinion nut from 195-220 ft-lbs 3. scout II front axle early ford if the e-brake is on the caliper the calipers are caddys 4. sure you can even buy an adjustable distribution block to adjust pressure from front to rear 5.rustolem hammered paint that works awesome 6. i run 85w-90 ive got buddies that beat on their rigs pretty good they run up to 120w hope that helps you out thanks alot Also, when reinstalling the yoke on the pinion splines, smear a small bit of silicone around the female splines of the yoke. That will keep gear oil from migrating down the splines and leaking (which could be happening with your pinion pointed down). There is actually a small rubber washer with the same spline count as the pinion shaft that is supposed to go under the pinion nut to seal the splines but silicone works. gotch ya... |
