I'm looking to get rid of the "armstrong" steering on my 79 CJ. I've got an 84 CJ basket case with a 258 I6 that has the power set-up that I'm hoping to use. Has anyone done one of these before or know of a thread already out there discussing this? I can't seem to find a way to search the forum on this topic.

Thanks, that will help. I also found the search option, hidden in plain sight.....I think my biggest challenge will be mounting it to the block since I'm taking it from a straight six to a V8.
I just did the same thing last week with my 72 cj5 w/304 and I LOVE IT!!! It's an entirely different beast.
It took a little trial and error but it's actually really easy. I used the stock manual steering box bracket which was a cast part for the new 80's camaro RS 3 bolt box(free), a pump and brackets off of a '85 FS cherokee w/360 ($35) and a high pressure hose from Kragen's online for a 1980 cj5 ($14). Grab the belt for the size and all the bolts off the 360. The stock steering shaft fits perfectly. The manual and power boxes are the same length. The most vexing problem I had was clearance between the hoses on the top of the steering box and the radiator. I just unbolted the radiator and drilled new 3/8" holes on the mounting flange to raise the radiator 1" and it worked perfectly. You may need to buy the stamped box brackets on ebay for like $15 but the ones I bought didn't work for me because the spring perch got in the way as the springs are different on a 72 than a post 76. I also changed grabbed a 105 amp alternator while I was at it and no more killing the battery while winching, I LOVE THIS COMBO!
