Do i have to have back up lights and/or a license plate light? I dont remember taking these off of the jeep. If they weren't original equipment i dont have to have them correct?

There should be a switch up on the side of the tranny some place that controls the power to the lights. On the Jeep ones it is on the drivers side.

well i have a tranny from a 79 k5 blazer.... maybe i should just put a switch on the dash for the reverse lights and wire the license plate light into the running lights?

That would work. Stock, the driver's side fixture just has a clear lens in it's bottom so the running light does double duty.
